Joanne

I take inspiration for my work from the landscape, especially the sea. The sea embodies a sense of freedom to me; its openness and constant movement allow me to feel free and calm in a turbulent world. I dislike feeling penned in and need frequent change and travel in order to feel complete. While this is not possible or practical in everyday life, my artwork gives me this sense of freedom.

Painting is also a very emotional driven occupation. When I paint I think of nothing else but the colours and how they relate to one another on the canvas. I start with a scene in mind and invariably I find that once I start and get absorbed in the colours, the painting takes on a life of its own. When this happens I produce the artwork I am most happy with. I do feel these works come straight from my soul and are an expression of ignored or buried emotions.
